Check out the latest Mario games!

Love is in the air this Valentine's Day as Nintendo of America is offering up direct access to the very latest 3DS and Wii U news. At 6am Pacific time / 9am Eastern time Nintendo broadcasted a new Nintendo Direct which has plenty of red-hot news relating to the company's upcoming software! You can watch the North American version below, and the European version here!

Nintendo Direct 2.14.2013

Luigi takes the spotlight in New Super Luigi U

Will be a "large scale" download for the Wii U title

In both the North American and European Nintendo Direct broadcasts, Satoru Iwata appeared — wearing a snazzy green hat — to declare this the "Year of Luigi". After Mario has hogged the line-up in recent years, Luigi will have a starring role in some new titles, one of which will actually be an expansive DLC offering for New Super Mario Bros. U, titled New Super Luigi U.

The "Bros." is dropped as this will be an extensive set of 80 levels — alternate versions of those found in the main game — featuring the brother and offering "a whole new level of gameplay challenge". Notably this will be a single download — not broken up into small chunks of DLC — and Satoru Iwata didn't give a set date, only that it would arrive this year. It's not clear whether multiplayer is included, nor was any hint given at the potential price, but it was promised that it would be a substantial addition to the launch day platformer.

If you download it you'll apparently be able to freely jump between the Luigi and normal game stages. What do you think of this upcoming expansion via DLC, and what sort of pricing do you expect to be applied?

Mario Golf: World Tour

During today's Nintendo Direct presentations it was confirmed that a new Mario Golf game is coming to the 3DS this summer.

Mario Golf: World Tour is being developed by Camelot Software Planning and will feature a wide range of courses — including some inspired by the fantasy world Mario and his friends inhabit — as well as improved controls and some familiar game mechanics. You can also expect to see plenty of famous characters from the world of Nintendo, including Donkey Kong, Wario and Yoshi!

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

New RPG coming to the 3DS this summer

A new addition to the Mario & Luigi RPG series of games has been announced today for the 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Nintendo President and CEO, Satoru Iwata, revealed the title during Nintendo Direct after dubbing 2013 the 'Year of Luigi', with the game making its way to our handhelds this summer in Europe and the US - no specific dates were given.

As the title suggests, the game takes place in good old Luigi's dreams, with Mario's sleeping brother solving puzzles and defeating enemies as he snores.
